Supermarket action ideas

• Trolley runs
  Fill up trolleys with goods containing soya and maize. Bring trolleys to checkouts and go through the items demanding non-GM guarantee Be polite to checkout, demand to see manager. Leaflet queue to explain the hold up.
• Trolley stops
  Again fill trolleys with GM food. Put contaminated signs on trolley then leave around.
• Creating a biohazard zone
  Quietly fill a number of trolleys with contaminated goods. Take them all to one part of the store and restock them on same shelves - a contaminated food aisle. Produce maps showing shoppers where the contaminated zone is and which brands to avoid.
• Cut up loyalty cards
  Anyone can have as many loyalty cards as they want. Take out a few then cut them up in front of press. Other shoppers may follow your example.
• Show people that they are part of the genetics experiment
  Dress as scientist and hand shoppers cards telling them they are being experimented on, with their own experimental number. Shoppers can hand an attached slip to the supermarket if they object to being experimented on.
• Musical trolleys
  Record messages to shoppers in the form of tanoy announcements ("Ding dong! Attention all Customers (a certain product) is now contaminated with genetic engineering. Safeways suggests don't buy it"). Play these in a loud portable tape player hidden in your trolley.
• Set up a customer advice centre
  Provide lists of GM and non GM goods. Offer to check through shoppers purchases. Greenpeace do supermarket tours explaining what is and what is not GM. Contact them for more details.
• Hunt the label competition for kids
  Give out magnifying glasses to read the GM labels. The kid who notes down the most brands containing GM soya/corn wins a prize of organic chocolate
• Farmers blockade
  Farmers may be able to bring tractors to help mount a visual protest against GM food � Mutant fruit - Alternatively bring along the mutant 'munch bunch'.
• Non GM recipe handout
  Distribute with information about bad food (GM) on the reverse.
• Tape off supermarket with Biohazard tape
  Wear white suits, isolate contaminated products...
